We are the Bellingham Traverse

The Bellingham Traverse began in 2002, to celebrate the life-cycle of wild salmon, showcase Bellingham Parks and Greenways and as a means for community members to support local non-profits. In 2013, we started Recreation Northwest to manage the event and create value for
our community.

We are mission driven: Recreation Northwest promotes outdoor recreation and brings people together to enjoy, preserve and improve the places where we play. We focus our work on three areas: Parkscriptions, Recreation Economy and Fairhaven Park.

Partnering with doctors and other health care providers to prescribe time outdoors. Parkscriptions connects patients with positive outdoor experiences for healthier lifestyles and improved mental and physical health.

Bringing the outdoor recreation community together to learn from each other, raise the profile of this key sector of our economy and advocate for the value of outdoor recreation and our public lands at the state and local level.

Stewarding the Fairhaven Park trail system we have utilized for years for the Traverse by removing invasive species, rerouting trails to improve access and restoring wetland habitat through native plantings.
